Host is OpenSuse 11.2, Guest is XP, cannot view usb thumb drives

Hello.

Using VMplayer v3.1, the Host PC is running OpenSuse 11.2, the Guest OS is Windows XP SP2 .

VMware tools has been installed from within the guest OS.

When I plug in a usb flash drive a popup asks if it should connect to the the virtual machine and a warning that only one device can only be connected to the host or one virtual machine at a time. In the VMplayer window; Virtual Machine > Removable Devices > Flash Memory - shows that that it is connected and give an option to disconnect (connect to host).

From within xp, if I go to MY COMPUTER the usb does not show up?

Suggestions for a newb?

I installed windows XP service pack 3 and then reinstalled the vmware tools (repair).

Nothing has changed.... still no thumbdrive
