Help with Wireless Connection (settings posted)

VMware novice here. I am having trouble getting my wireless connection working on my virtual machine. Both connections on host work fine. The wireless connection (which I re-named in guest OS to "Wireless Network Connection") can obtain an IP address when I boot the VM with the network cable connected, but does not when I do so when the cable is disconnected. In either case, I cannot browse the web from the wireless connection. I suspect something is set incorrectly in the bridged connection settings. Thanks for any help you can provide.

VMware Player 2.5.2 build-156735

Host: Windows XP 32-bit

Guest: Windows XP 32-bit

VMware tools: Installed on the guest.

Both adapters are configured as bridged.

You need to run the Virtual Network Editor (vmnetcfg.exe, located in the Player folder) to configure your host's networking. Disable automatic bridging. Then specify which host NIC you want bridged to VMnet0, and optionally specify the other NIC to bridge to one of the unused VMnets (2-7, 9). When you have your VM's ethernet card configured for "Bridged" mode it will use VMnet0. If you want to use the other connection, change the VM's connection type to "Custom" and specify the appropriate VMnet.

Thanks for the help. I had used vmnetcfg to disable automatic bridging, manually set the wired NIC to bridge to VMnet0, and the wireless NIC to VMnet2.

If someone can clarify a few things:

1. Does the above mean that I cannot use two bridged connections simultaneously?

2. Will an end user who uses this VM be able to switch between wired and wireless connections on the fly without having to mess with the VM settings?

Thanks for the help so far.

1. no - when you disable "auomatic bridging misfeature" you can use 2 bridged networks

2. no - this only works in theory inside VMware Inc. secret research labs - in practical use this never works

If the enduser also configures two bridged networks and uses the same vmnets as you - then he can switch between vmnet0 and vmnet2 on the fly - but this enduser MUST disable the "auomatic bridging misfeature"
