Using win 11 64 bit as host. loaded vmware workstation 16 player 16.2.3 build-19376536 and am unable to load tools so I can drag/drop/cut/paste between host and virt os (win7). I have tried all I know abd several tools files but tools wont load.
I get a failure when loading tools thru the virt machine and it says to load manually. It fails for me. tried both the iso and exe updater.
I may be confused as to state of vw player when loading. have tried with both player closed down, open but no virt os running and also virt os riunning.
Would greatly appreciate the steps and files to get this working. Curiously, I did (somehow) get it working b4 i had to reinstall my main os, but now cant. appreicate the assistance.

Windows 7 VMs need to be updated to support SHA-2 code signing
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/78708
There are also other prerequisites, see the release notes
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Tools/12.0/rn/VMware-Tools-1200-Release-Notes.html#beforeyoubegin
But considering you got it working before, chances are it is missing the SHA-2 support.
For the first about side-channel mitigations, that means the Windows 10/11 host that you use somehow has Hyper-V enabled. It looks like sometimes Windows update will enable components that require Hyper-V. Or it could be you enabled explicitly something like WSL2 that will also result in Hyper-V being enabled.
If you want to remove Hyper-V from the host. Use this KB as reference
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2146361
You also have to make sure that Memory Integrity is OFF (Windows Security -> Device Security -> Core Isolation details).
For the second one, it looks like the VM is looking for a device on the host. My guess is this might be a virtual DVD/CD drive that is mapped to a physical DVD/CD drive on the host that is no longer there.
is there a similar update that I need to load for win 10? just created the VM and it wont copy/paste. Thanks
I got it. needed to reload vm tools.
