My vmware player locked up recently when I turned on unity mode and I had to reboot my machine to get it back. Now when I try to power on my image, I get this error:
Failed to connect pipe to virtual machine: All pipe instances are busy.
I am running Windows 11 and this image has worked fine before.
I have tried deleting all the .lck, .lock, and .vmem files and then rebooting my computer (a couple of times), but I am still getting this error. I don't know what to do now.
Same thing happened to me today. VM locked up after disconnecting USB device. When trying to suspend or shut down the VM I received a message saying it was busy. So I killed the task and restarted and now get the same message you do.
So yeah, restarted computer. Issue fixed lol
Weird, my error eventually went away. Maybe I rebooted again or something. *shrug*
there's another post in the community with the same fix.
Windows probably: It's my pipe you can't have it!
Next time try killing (Task Manager) the Player then kill the background task 'VMWare Workstation VMX' (may be called something else in Player). I use Workstation and have run into the same issue. Or reboot - whatever floats your boat.
Bless you, this worked when this happened to me a few minutes ago.
