Hi,
I wonder if it's possible to export a VM with VMware Player. If not, which product is able to do it?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to the VMware community forums!
Export it to what?
Normally VCenter VMware Converter should do the trick, but depending on where you want to use it, the export process might not be needed.

Hi and thank you for your welcome.
I need to save the current image of my VM in order to have a sort of backup of it, so in case of corruption of the current one I can restore a working copy of it.
Thank you.
to do that you only need to create a backup copy of the directory where the VM lives in.
In most cases this is sufficient

You don't need any additional products for a backup. Your virtual machine is just a bunch of files. You could even start it up on another host running VMware Player without any issues. This is one of the reasons why virtual machines are so incredibly convenient.
The only thing I would like to add to this is that you should shut down your virtual machine before making the copy of the folder.

Not exactly. I have already tried few times to just copy VM from VMware Player to another location (pendrive). After re-run it on another computer under VMware Player something strange has been done to filesystem. While open folder structures like /var/www (Apache2 default webs storage) in program (thunar, gimp, scite and others) there were 2 x names of files and folders. While coping to another computer, program has seen 3 x names of files up to n x times. Unfortunatley I am ABLE to reproduce this situation every time I want to.
- VMware Player Version: 3.1.2 build-301548
- Host OS Version: Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit (Build 7600) 6.1.7600
- Guest OS: Linux Debian 5 Lenny (Stable)
Are you saying that you shut down the VM, copy the folder on the host which contains the files of the VM to another drive and when you start the copy of the VM on another host you get this behavior?
I copy VMs all the time, in fact go back and forth between a Windows XP (Player) and Mac host (Fusion) without any issues. It is hard to imagine a copy as I've described above cleanly making changes to the VM file system.
Correct. After shut down the VM, I copy the folder on the host which contains the files
of the VM to another drive and when I start the copy of the VM on
another host I get this behavior. Also when I copy it that way few times I get "3 x folders/files, 4 x folders/files, n x folders/files...".
