Errror attempting installation of VMWare Player on Windows7/64bit

All:

I'm *consistently* getting an error while trying to install VMWare Player on 64-bit Windows7.

The error I get is "side-by-side configuration error". This EXE starts to execute perfectly in Windows7 32bit.

After some surfing I found that "side-by-side" refers to a 32bit compatibility mode in 64-bit Windows7. I have to run utilities

to determine which DLL versions are used by the VMWARE installer (EXE).

Surely SOMEONE has seen this before? Anyone? Any simple solution (other than to run under VMWARE Fusion on my Mac? :-)).

Note: this exact same message comes up for:

* VMware Converter

* VMWare Workstation

So I can't do *any* kind of VMWARE installation on my 64bit Windows7 machine. Surely this can be fixed?

Thanks,

Charlie

The side-by-side error could also be caused by a corrupted installation package. As a first step, please verify the MD5 checksum of the downloaded package. You can use e.g. http://www.vmware.com/download/md5.html to get the checksum for the download, then compare it with the one provided at the download site for the package you downloaded.
