Error playing a VM: The specified virtual disk needs repair

I am using "VMware-player-3.1.0-261024.exe" and while starting the VM, I had this error message "Cannot open the disk 'C:\...\Windows 7.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Reason: The specified virtual disk needs repair."

I'm a beginner with VMs and I have important things on the VM.

Any help, please?

Same problem with VMware Player 6.0.3 build-1895310

Seems to be a recurrent problem only fixed with paid version.

It happened with win8 host and debian guest.

Linux became out of space and I switched off to expand Linux image within VMware settings.
