Im running a virtual Ubuntu machine on windows xp and iv noticed that sometimes when you boot up the ubuntu machine it has no ip. I found a topic with the same problem:

I followed the same instuctions and got no ip aswell. I then switched from one xp machine to another and out of nowhere i suddanly had an ip.
Is there any reason why your ip might just dissappear like that?
