Creating and consolidating Snapshot only possible with Workstation (not with Player)?

As far as I can see creating and consolidating a Snapshot is only possible with VmWare Workstation and NOT with VmWare Player.

Is this correct?

While VMware Player can run a Virtual Machine that has Snapshots it cannot however create/delete them.  If all you have is VMware Player and don't want to install VMware Workstation and you want to create a consolidated virtual hard disk manually you could use vmware-vdiskmanager from the Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK) to create a new virtual hard disk from what's existing and then manually swap out the disk.
