Connecting a usb device to a windows 7 VM

I'm using a Windows 10 computer and I'm trying to set up windows mobile device center on a windows 7 VM so I can communicate with some windows CE devices but the problem I'm having is that when I plug in a flash drive, a CE device or anything USB the VMware player recognizes I plugged it in but then when I try to go to removable devices for the VM all of my options are greyed out and auto-connect does not work either. I will include pictures, if anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

For reference, the base system device in the device manager is not the device I am trying to connect to. Not actually sure what that is yet.

This isn't specific to Windows 7, it happens on all Windows hosts it seems for some reason.

You need to edit the VMX configuration file for the given virtual machine and look for USB limitation. The disablement flag is there.

Sadly I did not, when I opened the vmx file that line was not there so I wasn't able to make any changes. Oddly enough the vmx file had barely anything in it. Also I many not be getting the right file in the first place because the only file in the documents section that was close to vmx was a vmxf file

That's not the vmx file, but the vmxf file I think.
