No, the standard way to connect to a USB or networked printer, is to share the printer in the host and then open a DOS Command window and type:

NET USE etcetera, please use Google and search for "How to print to a network printer from an MS-DOS-based program in Windows XP" or something similar for a shared non-networked USB printer.

The USB-to-parallel adapter could work - just add a virtual parallel port to the VM, and configure it to use the port provided by the adapter.

Never tried it myself, though.
