Hi All,
Hopefully someone has encountered/knows of a working solution for the issue that we having.
Basically, we have some very Old PC's that are still running on WinXP & I have been given the task of trying to migrate them to a Modern host LENOVO M920s. & VM
I have successfully created a VM of a PC using the last compatible version of VMWare Standalone Converter. The Original WinXP PC's use a Hardware Dongle connected to a Parallel Port to be able to run the Bespoke Software, All the Devices that are required connect from the HOST to the VM without any issues. The LENOVO M920s has not got a Native LPT1 Port on the MB, But it does have a LPT1 Header on the MB, We have ordered the correct header from LENOVO & await it's arrival.
In the meantime, I have tried a PCi Express LPT Add-card & various USB-LPT Adapters & even a DELL Legacy LD17 Adapter, All are recognised by the HOST, & Some are recognised by the VM using the Connected Devices TAB, But when I try to "Connect" the LPT1 Port on the VM it fails, so obviously there is no passthrough from VM to HOST & then to the outside world....
I have tried a very old SERVER circa 2006 which had an onboard LPT Port & the VM connected to the Physical LPT Port OK....But the SERVER is Bulky & very Old, which defeats the whole exercise really....
So my questions are really, What is the best way anyone knows on how to connect/enable LPT support "flawlessly" & if anyone has been successful in achieving this, what HOST, peripheral Cards, did you use.... ?? We are using VMware-player-15.5.6-16341506
Thanks first of all to anyone that replies & guidance that they provide....
Peter
