Accessibility. Audio device closes while installing linux guest systems in console mode.

Bug.

The audio device closes while installing guest linux operating systems using speech with speakup in console mode.

This bug appears in textbased distros such as slint:

https://slint.fr

debian:

Archlinux

Steps to reproduce:

  • Download the distro that requires textbased installation in console. For example: slint. https://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-14.2.1/iso
This issue also appears while installing debian and archlinux with accessibility installation enabled.
  • Create a new virtual machine using this installer as an ISO image.
  • Run the virtual machine. In slint, After some period of time you will hear the phrase: this installer has speech and braille support. To use the speech, press s, then enter. Press that key combination. To check how accessibility installation is runned in archlinux, read here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Accessibility
  • After the speech synthesizer starts speaking, proceed with the installation. Wait until speakup stops speaking and then wait for some seconds
  • Try to press 7 and 9 numpad keys. They are needed for navigating the screen with speakup console screen reader. It will be likely that you won't hear anything and you won't be able to install the operating system in the console mode with accessibility features enabeled.

Expected result:

The audio device shouldn't close when running speakup in the console mode including the installation of the linux guest system after speakup stops talking.

Actual result:

After the speech stops, audio device in the guest operating system stops working. The option to disconnect and connect the soundcard in the virtual machine settings doesn't work, so the user has to start the installation of the operating system over in the hope that it won't interrupted.

Reproduced on:

Host operating system:

Windows 10 64 Bit

VmWare player version:

16.1.2 build-17966106

Guest operating system:

Slint, archlinux, debian, any linux operating system that uses the installation with accessibility mode enabeled with console.
