Hey all, first of I have no idea where to post these question so sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Right now
I was after some input on what vmware product I need
This is what I want to do
I want my "windows" pc to run a debian within a VM
I need this to start when my pc does and it to be always on as it will be running a few static websites
Can this be done? if so what would I need to do this from VMware?

vmware player is the way to go for you to get introduced.
since this is probably a desktop stay away from esxi
Welcome to the Community - The only two products that might fit your requirments are VMware Player or Workstation - Player is free while Workstation costs money -- either of these you will start with the autoexex batch file -
I am going to assume you will want to be economical so I am moving this thread to the VMplayer forum -
you can use vmware player which is free, and vmware esxi free version also if needed

Hey all, Ok ive got vmware player up and running and debian installed. now just a few more questions if thats ok
I want to be able to SSH to this VM can that be done?
Also how do I go about keeping this on all the time and with startup of windows 7?
Last question
How can I hide the player? I don't need it to be up all the time it will only get in the way. (But I want it to still run)
Cheers
you can ssh in, that depends on the debian os itself.
it liek another pc.
i think with player you need to manually start it iirc.
edit:: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/273945
here is a way to start it automatically thanks to windows. i havent tried it.
you should be able to hide player like any other window, with the _ box.
As other points are answered I will only do suggestion about SSH. First try to have network connection in Your debian (pinging etc...) and then play with it You should see it having separate virtual network adapter which You should be able to use.
