VSAN Datastore Sharing as External Storage

Hi !

I am wondering if we could use the VSAN Datastore Sharing feature in the context of a validated VMMark3 score.

The idea, would be to have 2 VSAN Clusters (Client and SUT) and export the VSAN DS from the Client Cluster to the SUT system.

Thank you !

Keep in mind:

  • Both clusters will need to be licensed with vSAN Enterprise
  • Both clusters will need to have a local vSAN Datastore

And I do not even know the VMMark requirements...

Thanks Duncan,

We meet all those requirements.

VMmark documentation states the following:

"If using VMware vSAN™ as the primary storage solution, a secondary storage solution might be needed for
infrastructure operations."

We are thinking in using the VSAN Datastore Sharing feature to be the target storage for svmotions and xvmotions.

I just want to know from VMware if this will be accepted as we do not have external block storage.

Thanks

This is the storage design we are considering

From my perspective, vSAN Datastore Sharing is acceptable for use as VMmark3 secondary storage (IE infrastructure operation LUNs).
