Understanding the Host memory and guest memory tab

Hello everybody!

In the VM Resource allocation tab, the host memory and host cpu is about the consumed resources of the physical machine (esxi host) and the guest memory is about the consumed resources of the guest VMs, correct?

Sena,

The host memory is the amount of host memory the VM is consuming against what has been allocated to it (including overhead).

The way I understand it, the guest memory area is showing how memory is being allocated to the guest - from host memory, swap, shared, etc.

Check out this Yellow-Bricks.com post for a lot more detail on the Memory Metrics in vCenter http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/12/20/vcenter-and-memory-metrics/

Hope this helps,
