installing VMRC on Windows XP

We are trying to install the VMRC (VMWare Remote Console), as an

alternative to vSphere Client console and Web Client.

We found

VMware Remote Console 7.0 for Windows

and

VMware Remote Console 7.0.1 for Windows

Obviously, there are no older versions available on VMWare sites.

Windows XP appears to be not compatible:

An attempt to install on XP will yield the following:

Dieses Installationspaket kann vom Windows Installer-Dienst nicht

installiert werden. Sie müssen ein Service Pack für Windows

installieren, das eine neuere Version des Windows Installer

   Dienstes enthält.

(translation from German: "this package cannot be installed by the

Windows Installer Service. You need to install a service pack for

windows, that contains a newer version of the windows installer

service")

Has anybody managed to install VMRC on Windows XP?

Thanks, Thomas

From VMWare support I even learned, that Windows 7, 32 Bit is not supported, even if currently the Release Notes do not state this.

As we have still XP running, and will be having Windows 7, 32 Bit for quite long time, this is no good news for us, and, again, it would be interesting to know if someone has managed to work around this.

Of course, you can utilize the VMRC built into the Web Client, but that's not what I ask for here.

Bad news... not supporting any 32 bit is realy bad! Lots of organizations out there are forced to run Win7 32 bit systems because lots of apps require Win7  32 bit to run Smiley Sad

Anyway... thank you for sharing this information... saved me a lot of work trying to resolv this!

I just sent a feature request for VMRC on 32 Windows.

You are welcome to do the same. Many customers needing this will possibly make VMWare dev team reconsider.

Thanks, Thomas
