How do I enable it? I've tried disabling the isolation options, am using v6.5, but not having any luck so far to get some plain text clipboard action happening.

On which OS are you running VMRC? What OS is on your VM? Is VMware Tools installed?
Copy/paste to Mac guests (not widely used) isn't supported (we're tracking this with internal ticket 657322).
Although the isolation settings are pretty straightforward you may want to review the KB Clipboard Copy and Paste does not work in vSphere Client 4.1 and later (1026437)
