Yes, there could be performance impact, but not especially due to a link between VMware Tools v9 and HW version v8.

VMware Tools 9 implies that you are on vSphere 5.1 or higher.

And in there the HW version is 9 or higher.

The HW version might have performance impact when not following the vSphere version.

Note that the manageability changes when going to HW v9 or higher (Web client)

Since the VMware Tools contain the drivers for the virtual devices, it is advisable to keep them up to date.

Several KB on performance issues advise to make sure the VMware Tools are at the correct build.

The following document, although written for a specific commercial tool, contains some very good and more elaborate information on the subject.

Thanks Luc for sharing the Doc., My question is If Vmware tools are of version 9 which is OK (Updated) and Vm hardware version is 8 (OLD) ? Could it cause any performance impact.

For Ex:

Name               : any1

GuestOS            : Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)

Version            : v8

ToolsRunningstatus : guestToolsRunning

ToolsStatus        : toolsOk

Toolsversion       : 9357
