new-harddisk cmdlet error

I'm trying to call new-harddisk -VM "somevm" -Datastore "ds01" -Persistence persistent -CapacityKB 6291456

And getting an error:

New-HardDisk : 29/04/2010 09:45:12 New-HardDisk 50436E6A-10B0-4295-903A-DD75C6A8EED7 The operation for the entity vm-24108 failed with the following message: "scs

i0:0 is already present.

Failed to add disk scsi0:0."

At line:1 char:13

Any ideas? This used to work before vsphere. Can anyone confirm that it works for them?

Cheers,

Tim.

I get the same message when the guest is running Windows 7.

On guests with XP Pro and Windows 2008 the cmdlet works correctly.

Seems like a bug with Windows 7 guests.

Or perhaps when using a LSI Logic SAS controller.

Hi,

Thanks for that Luc. They are 2008 R2 guests that I was running it against, so like you say possibly a bug with the controller. I'll file a bug report.

Cheers,

Tim

Support have reproduced this issue. I'm waiting to hear back about how it will be fixed. Manually adding disks for me for a while then Smiley Happy

This issue is Bug # 523381 and will be fixed in the next PowerCLI release. No date for that yet.
