Work with remote ESXSoftwareDepot

Hey Folks,

I´m thinking about how to manage ESXSoftwareDepots that I´ve uploaded upfront into the Image Builder.

In this case "upfront" means, that I´ve uploaded for e.g. an ESXi Patch by using the Image Builder in the vSphere Webclient.

When I go on using the PowerCLI and connect to my vCenter and run the command "Get-EsxSoftwareDepot" it retrieves exactly 0 results.

I also know that it is possible to connect an EsxSoftwareDepot with "Connect-EsxSoftwareDepot".

It contains a parameter named "-DepotUrl" but I only found examples using a local path (e.g. C:\temp\ESXiPatch.zip).

Is there a way to connect the upfront uploaded depot which is already located in the image builder?

Like:  Add-EsxSoftwareDepot -DepotUrl https://vcenter/imagebuilder/EsxiDepot123

Thanks,

Max

Afaik the custom depot you defined doesn't expose a public URL.
You could export the images you already uploaded as ZIP files, and use the Add-EsxSoftwareDepot with that ZIP file.

Thanks Luc.

I hope VMware will improve this behaviour, so that there will be only one location for storing depots.

I already submitted an idea: https://powercli.ideas.aha.io/ideas/PCLI-I-136
