VMware Infrastructure Toolkit (for Windows) *A certification chain processed correctly, but terminated in a root certificate which isn't trusted by the trust provider.

I installed VMware Infrastructure Toolkit (for Windows) and try to execute the get-esx command. I enter the FQDN of one of the ESX servers, then root and the root password. However I continue to receive the following error:

  • A certification chain processed correctly, but terminated in a root certificate which isn't trusted by the trust provider.

When I enter the VirtualCenter FQDN instead of an ESX FQDN name, I receive the above error and the following error:

  • The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value.

To sign in to VirtualCenter, I have a different AD account to use

if I ssh into an ESX host from my desktop, I use a generic "serveruser" account and then su - with the root password.

This is a certificate error, not really related to the VI Toolkit.

See also .

This VMware article explains how to add a certificate to your ESX.

The alternative is to unselect the option .

That way you will get the warning but you will be able to connect.
