Trouble with Open-VMConsoleWindow in Ubuntu

I'm having trouble using Open-VMConsoleWindow in Ubuntu. I get the error: "No virtual machine ID was specified in this URL" when I try to use it.

Versions in use:

  • OS: Ubuntu 23.04
  • Powershell: Core 7.3.4
  • PowerCLI: 13.1.0.21624340
  • VMware Workstation: 17.0.2 build-21581411

I thought I'd try vmrc instead but it seems it is not possible to install workstation and vmrc side by side. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Hi, thank you for the reply. I tried to uninstall Workstation and install VMRC instead, but the result was the same, but with reference to vmrc instead of vmplayer.

"Open-VMConsoleWindow -vm <vm> -UrlOnly" shows different results in Linux and Windows.
in Linux:
vmrc://<esxi-host>:443/thumbprint=...
in Windows:
vmrc://<esxi-host>:902/?mksticket=...&thumbprint=...&path=...
