Shutdown a (free) ESXi host via PowerCLI

Can anybody please tell if it is possible to use PowerCLI (from a Windows box) to shutdown a free VMware ESXi host not member of any vSphere infrastructure?

If so, che the PowerCLI script be issued from a guest VM of the same ESXi host, so that the script performs the following tasks:

Issue a command to shutdown the ESXi host in 30 minutes

  • Issue a comand to shutdown all the guest VM
  • Issue a command to shutdown the Windows guest itself in 5 minutes

UIs there any relevant issue I am missing?

Regards

marius

On the ESXI free version PowerCLI is limited to read-only operations (all the Get- cmdlets), I'm afraid.

See KB2005377

I'm afraid so, see Re: ESXi Free Version, 5.0 vs. 5.1/5.5 CLI limitations
