We use VCenter version 5.1 and I would like to use the latest option from PowerCli 5.8 or 5.5.
What I don't now are the dependency, if I install PowerCli 5,.8 or 5.5 on our VCenter Host.
Can I do it riskless? Or where are the pitfall

Hi,
you can check the interoperability here:
http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/sim/interop_matrix.php
select VMware vCenter Server in the first dropdown and vSphere PowerCLI in the second.
It will show you that powerCLI 5.8 is compatible with vCenter Server 5.1, 5.1U1 and 5.1U2

In the VMware Product Interoperability Matrixes you can see which vSphere version are supported with which PowerCLI version.
As you can see, both PowerCLI 5.5 and 5.8 shouldn't have a problem.
But I would strongly suggest not to install PowerCLI on your vCenter.
Rather install it on a Windows PC or a different server., and connect (Connect-VIserver) to the vSphere server you want to run a script against.
Running heavy PowerCLI scripts on the vCenter server just adds to the load of the vCenter server, and can eventually impact the performance of the vCenter service.

Thanks a lot for your support. I installed the latest version on a separate Server.
