As I am new to scripting and PowerCLI, currently running ESXi 5.1, looking to upgrade to 6. I have installed PowerCLI 6.3 R2 and I'm interested in the following books:
VMware vSphere PowerCLI Reference Publication Date: March 25, 2011
PowerCLI Essentials. Paperback – April 25, 2016
Are these books still usable with the newer version of PowerCLI or will the examples and commands need modifications? Any information would be helpful.
Thank you!
Fyi, the PowerCLI Reference book is not an entry level PowerCLI book, it assumes a basic knowledge of PowerShell and PowerCLI.
And btw there is a 2nd edition available since beginning of this year.

Thank you, I did find the 2nd edition. Any thoughts on the "Essentials" book?
For general PowerShell, I would recommend "Learn Windows PowerShell in a Month of Lunches, Second Edition" by Don Jones. Even though the book is older, it covers the essentials of PowerShell, which will translate into just about any module or snap-in that you could use. manning.com has the ebook, amazon.com used to, but for some reason, I only see the physical one.
For PowerCLI, I would definitely recommend LucD's book,
Month of Lunches is great.
There is also a free book on basic PowerShell available, see Master-PowerShell, less organised, but still good.
