Alan made a post, called PowerCLI – Where do I start ?!, that list several sources of information for the beginner. The document from Xtravirt is a good one to start with.

I don't normally plug my employers solutions on the forum but Veeam Reporter 4.0 will give waht you need and more.

The issue with doing what you ask in a scripts is "historical data" - Veeam Rep4 logs historical data"

You can use the method Carter described in his Find out how many VMs you’re creating a month with this simple script. post.

It's based on Alan's custom attribute method.

An alternative is to use the events and filter out the tasks that created a VM.

See my Events: a great source of information – Part 1 post.

The script mentioned in this link http://blogs.vmware.com/vipowershell/2010/03/find-out-how-many-vms-youre-creating-a-month-with-this-... is not complete. Which cmd-let should I use to connect to the VC server ?

Thanks

That is a problem that you will see with several blog posts (mine included).

We leave out the

Connect-VIServer -Server <your-vCenter-or-ESX(i)-server>

statement.
