How to view Guest files without mounting the .vmdk

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to view/edit the files within a guest disk (while it's off) without having to mount the disk .vmdk file.

To explain - I can do this now using the vmware-mount.exe tool but this requires an additional download and install onto the VM server so I'd like to do this from directly within the toolkit.

I've had a look at the posts and faq etc but cannot seem to see an answer. - so it's either a non starter or so obvious that i've missed it.

Hoping it's the latter Smiley Happy

Many thanks - very useful forum btw...

The VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VVDK) could offer an alternative solution.

There are some samples but not in PowerShell.

I don't have any experience (yet) to give you some PowerShell examples.

Perhaps some other Community members could give some examples.
