How to Perform vmkping from ESXi 4

Hoping someone can help me out here.

Can you perform a vmkping in anyway from an ESXi 4 host, is so How?

I'm starting to make the switch from ESX 4 classic to ESXi and PowerCLI and I ran into a command road block

Yes you can - one of the methods is from the console. To access the console use the "unsupported" mode.
