Enable VMNIC on ESXI Host

Is it possible to enable a physical VMNIC in vSphere on an ESXi host? I know it can be done on the ESXi console, but what about through the vSphere GUI in 6.0?

Can the above box be enabled through vSphere too? Or can you only do this through the ESXi console?

The checkbox doesn't actually enable, or disable a vmnic,. It simply assigns it to the vSwitch with the Management Port group on it.

You can assign/unassign vmnics in the GUI too, but you need to be careful, i.e. always ensure that at least one vmnic is connected to the vSwitch, otherwise you'll cut the tree branch you're sitting on, and need to assign a vmnic on the DCUI again.

If you don't assign a vmnic for the Management Network, you'll have no network connectivity to the host, i.e. you will not be able to open the GUI.
