[ESXi] How to force a refresh of free space on datastore?

After a bit of googling I found the RefreshDatastore command - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk25pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.Datastore.html#refresh

However it seems I am not allowed to use it with ESXi free version.

Are there other commands which will allow me to get real up to date data on free space?

The reason I ask is that I need to generate reports and raise alarms if we are running low on free space on datastores. Problem is that the data is not accurate until I manually refresh the data in VSphere Client.

Afaik you have read-only access with the free ESXi version.

Fair enough I can't run all the PowerCLI commands, but not automatically refreshing data is a big flaw with the product!
