Determining unused space in virtual hard disks

I would like to determine the unused space in my virtual hard disks.  I would like to:

  • Select a vm
  • the first vmdk disk is always the OS disk in this environment.  How much space was provisioned, and how much is actually being used?

  • The other disk(s) are application data.  What is the total space provisioned on these non-os disks, and how much of this space is actually being used?

thanks!

Actually, as to Carlos' question, is it possible to modify this report so that it will work with Linux guests as well?  As written it will only calculate the space based on Windows VMs, so that if you run the report and use it to get averages, your numbers might be skewed if you are running a mixture of Linux and Windows VMs.  Supposing that VMware tools are installed on all VMs, could I change the report to make it calculate Linux VMs as well?
For example, when I use the statement

$_.Path -eq "C:\"

Could this be changed to make it select the OS partition of a linux guest as distinct from the data partition?

For example:

{$_.Path -eq "c:\" or $_Path. -eq "/"}

What would be the correct syntax for this?

Thanks!
