Folks,
Can anyone guide me to a PCLI script using which i can format multiple luns in to datastore, while automating their naming too.
I have task where i have to move 300 VM over 30 TB new datastores as part of DMX to VMax Migration.
Any other ideas / guidance will be great help.
Discussion moved from VMware ESXi 5 to VMware vSphere™ PowerCLI
Can you provide some more info ?
Do you have a list (CSV ?) which says which LUN(s) should form which datastore ?
And which VM should be moved to which datastore ?
Or do you intend to use SDRS and let the cluster devide where a VM will be stored ?

Hi Luc,
I dont have a list (CSV) as of now, as the luns are yet to be allocated from newer VMax Array. I can try reach out to storage admin for same.
There is no restriction/boundation for any VM to be on specific DS.
Also sDRS might not help me as my final goal is to vacate the datastore and remove those luns.
Pl let me know if i can provide any more details.
How do you plan to create datastores on the VMax ?
One LUN, one datastore ?
I ment to create a DatastoreCluster with the datastores on the VMax.
Then you can just svMotion VMs and use the DatastoreCluster as the target.
In that case SDRS will take care of the placement.

yes, one lun - one datastore - each 2 TB minus 512 ( total 15 luns) consolidating 60 luns of 500 gig each.
I wish we had vSphere 5 for creating datastore cluster and using sDRS.
Pl correct me if i am wrong to state that.
I have vSphere 4.1, and ESX servers are 4.1 u1.
No, you are right, that requires vSphere 5
