vCenter Linked Mode with NSX-T Federation needed?

Hi. We are currently running NSX-V in Cross-vCenter mode and our vCenter is in linked mode. We will be moving to NSX-T, but not an upgrade of this NSX-V it will be a new deployment. Since we will be using Federation for NSX-T, is it necessary to have the vCenter at both sites in Linked mode? We can always move VM between sites with XVM and have done that already, so we wont need linked mode to move a VM anymore between sites. So we rather not be in linked, it just adds an additional complication, but I cannot find anywhere if linked mode is needed for NSX-T in Federation mode. The design guide for NSX-V was quite specific for linked mode. I am just not sure if linked mode will needed for any inventory information especially with using global firewall between sites, either using global tags, or VM name conventions. Thanks,,,
