dear all
hi
i have deployed nsx 6.2 on my lab but in my lab environment i have just one HP proliand DL380P G8 and installed on that esxi 6.0 update 2 and use vcneter now i want test all of nsx feature in my lab i have just one server and one cluster is that necessary have at least 2 cluster ?
is that mean i can not run that in my lab ?
Best regards
Babak
Depending of how many RAM do you have in your physical server, you may create nested ESXi hosts and then you will be able to create multiple clusters, see an example here: http://blog.bertello.org/2014/12/03/home-lab-for-nsx/
thanks
my physical server in lab has 46GB ram
but other problem is in my live environment i have 2esxi host and just have one cluster is that necessary have 2 cluster for run NSX?
why nsx create these limitation ? i don't need 2 cluster but for use NSX have to use 2 cluster ?
Why ?
A single cluster is possible. Please reference the design considerations for a single cluster on page 144 of the design guide here:
https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/nsx/vmw-nsx-network-virtualization-design-guide.pdf
so thanks
i will read that but i want sure
1 - can run nsx without no problem on one cluster with one host or 3 host?
2- run nsx on one cluster is not abnormal ?
3- will it work excelent on one cluster?
best regards
Hi there,
Just my two pesos:
Would be nice to have a separated cluster one for management, one for Edge services and one for compute, in home lab you can have for testing proposes one cluster for mgtm/Edge and one for compute then if you are lack of resources just to have two ESXi hosts (virtual ESXi hosts) it is ok, even in production, again the answer is "it depends" just trying to answer what is normal and what is not, sometimes best practice needs to be break with the right justification, so I have seen things like running nsx manager controllers and control VM for testing running inside a resource pool, and the requirement from best practice is to have a DRS for each controller mapping one VM controller on each ESXi hosts.
regards
thanks
1-Is your reason that you say best practice is we had 3 cluster is just for esxi host resources ?
2- if i had one cluster with 3 hosts or 2 hosts with enough resource there is not problem ?
Best regards
please help me
Hi,
you can configure one cluster with 2 or 3 esxi host
if you have ressources you can also use one physical machine .
you can use one cluster .
Don't hesitate if you need help
Regards
SO thanks
but how much resource (ram) totaly need nsx collection ?
warm regards
personally I used two physical machines with 16GB of ram each
and everything works
thanks
but 2 question:
1- iu have attached a pic . i have licensed my nsx but after that in License page it show ( is assigned No ) why say No ?
What is problem
2- othe question i have deploys nsx manager 6.2 nd it create a Vm but i want to know just this vm is enough or it will be other vm in future ?
Also I have created a lab nestled with 8 host and 3 cluster.
I'll give you a tip, but only in private would otherwise be sent away 🙂
check that vcenter is configuring correctly in nsx manager ( manage -nasx components )
thanks
i have attached pic from NSX managment component and other pages and also attach the message that wehn show in on license
2 - when i deploy nsx just create one vm with name nsx manager is that enough? beacause in some post i have say about nesx edge server and .. now my nsx is ok or have to seprate install nsx edge server ?
Best regards
Can you try stop and start the service, or your virtual central server.
can you answer my second question?
2 - when i deploy nsx just create one vm with name nsx manager is that enough? beacause in some post i have say about nesx edge server and .. now my nsx is ok or have to seprate install nsx edge server ?
I did not understand your question.

You can follow this blog http://nsx.world/
The blog is based on 16GB RAM
thanks
is that necessary to had VDS for run NSX or can use Standard switch?
warm regards
