I got a test vcenter that has one cluster and 2 hosts. Can I setup a nsx lab on this? or do I need at least 2 clusters?
You can use one cluster for testing , remember to exclude you VC VM from NSX Manager | Manage | Exclusion List
Unless those are very beefy hosts then squeezing all the required components on there I wouldn't think you'll have space.
But if you do this article will help you in shrinking all the components to their minimums, including only deploying 1 NSX controller rather than 3

Yea I agree. They will have to be some pretty healthy servers. I have reduced the specs on the NSX components before on a laptop just to do a POC and it'll let you get by if all you're doing is some simple testing.
yes pretty beefy hosts. They are cisco ucs servers 96GB ram each.
My nsx manager is connected to a production physical vlan.
Do my controllers needs to be in the same vlan? How do I define the static pools? Do I need to grab a range of IP from the physical subnet and put it down here?
thanks
hi, the controllers does not need to be in the same vlan as long as it is routable
For a step by step installation, you can refer to this document: Getting Started Guide for NSX vSphere
You can do it two ways....you can do static or you can do it DHCP. Whichever way you do it, I'd still block out a IP range for them.
Thank you. another question:
I have installed the nsx vibs on my 2 hosts. Now next step I want to configure the VTEPs for vxlan
what subnet should VTEP be in?
should they be isolated? Can they be on the same network as vmotion?
or can they be on the Control IP Pools subnet?
