Why there must be a logical switch playing transport network between DLR and ESG

Why can't DLR connect directly to ESG

I got quite confused on this

I am not exactly sure what you mean by this question since both the DLR and ESG are virtual to start with. So it is impossible to cross-connect these devices using a cross-over cable like you would with a physical router and firewall. I think you can either use the NSX virtual switch to connect the DLR and ESG or you may be able to use a Distributed Switch. In my case, I am using the NSX virtual switch.

I meant to say that 'why we must select a port group(Logic Switch is also a port group, right?) as a interface of ESG, but not a DLR as interfaces of ESG'
