Hi,
I'm currently in the process of attempting to upgrade from NSX-T 3.2.2 to NSX 4.0.0.1. When I upload the mub file, I am receiving the following error after checking compatibility matrix:
New NSX Upgrade version is not compatible with current NSX version, you cannot upgrade to this version
I've taken a look at the upgrade-coordinator.log which shows the following error:
I was wondering if anyone had any idea what's going on here? I've taken a look around on Google and found very limited information, I found this article (http://lmoglie.blogspot.com/2022/03/nsx-t-3136-upgrade-coordinator.html) which contained the same error message related to an older version with an issue which has been fixed prior to 3.2.2.
Grateful for any support, I'm looking to upgrade to ESXI 8, and this will prevent me from doing so.
Thanks,
James
As per public page , upgrade from 3.2.2 to 4.0.0.1 is not supported.
Instead , you can try upgrade from 3.2.2 to 4.1.0.0
hello.
funny enough i "was" kind of exposed to the same challenges. Reason appears to be the licensing you are using.
As an example, if your licensing is for NSX-T Advanced Limited Edition... and you try to upgrade with a "mub" file for an Enterprise NSX-T you could get this error, again... i am just giving info on what i have experience my self. also, on my end i had upgraded NSX Intelligence prior of NSX-T it self and i needed to delete the Intelligence appliance completely because i could not upgrade NSX-T if i did not delete it... funny the upgrade of Intelligence never told me to upgrade NSX-T prior...
ok... yes... i should have read the Release notes... i know...
lastly... while i was performing the upgrade of vCenter and NSX-T (and Horizon), i ended up with 2 Physical hosts of the cluster that had SDcard problem... (i run ESXi off SDcard) they were not giving any alert or indication of failure.. only that the VMware HA agent was no more able to connect to vCenter... and in vSphere (ESXi GUI) ... everything was green.... even the HA vCenter Client... so... i am in the middle of the upgrade of NSX-T... 5 out of 8 hosts (of the group) have been upgraded... at #6... it failed... so... decided to modify the group by taking out the faulty Host... NOPE... it doesn't let you... put the host in NSX-T maintenance mode as well as vCenter maintenance mode... shutdown host... still not able to remove from Group... that's where i am right now...
for your error... i believe it is related to the software you downloaded and try to upgrade with.. .but again... it could be something else... but it was actually what it was for me.
NSX has changed name... no more NSX-T... only NSX now and with that licensing which is becoming more complexe…
have fun.
As @rgudipati already mentioned - try upgrading to 4.1.0
Thing is that 3.2.2 is newer than 4.0.0.1 in term of release date, so that's the reason it's not possible.
Similar to chicken and egg scenario ![]()

well...looks like the info in VMware can lead to confusion...
in NSX V4.0.x... it state that it is supported
in NSX V4.1.x... it state clearly that it is not especially from 3.2.2 to 4.0.1.x
But i believe in the Subject... it indicates 4.0.0.1 and NOT 4.0.1.x
Yes i know... 4.0.0.1 is before 4.0.1.x... but they SHOULD have clearly stated it.
Hello,
if you check on VMware interoperability matrix, you'll see that this is not supported,
Here's the link for your reference:
