Tier1 Interface Graph

In the traditional network world, routers, switches and firewalls support SNMP. If you are looking to monitor them, you just need to configure the SNMP settings on our favorite NMS and within a few minutes, we can graph interface traffic, cpu and memory usage. It is free, and painless.

As far as I understand, NSX-T Tier1 and Tier0 do not support SNMP. Is there any way to get historical and live interface throughput for them? Ideally integrated with opensource NMS such as Zabbix or Nagios? I dont need anything fancy, just throughput in Mbps for each interface.

Hello, I didn't touched some other tool beside vRNI (Aria Operations for Network) but you can try enabling SNMP and importing required MIBs per this link https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-NSX-T-Data-Center/3.2/administration/GUID-466B1683-044C-4CBD-9395-...

Not sure what informations you will collect and see but maybe you can share here 😉

Thanks!

I could configure SNMP on both NSX Edge and Manager, but it looks like the VMWARE-NSX-MIB.mib is not activated or visible for some reason.

This is the edge version:

SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: NSX Edge 3.2.1.1.0 build 20115700 VMware x86_64

SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.1 = STRING: SNMPv2-MIB, RFC 3418
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.2 = STRING: IF-MIB, RFC 2863
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.3 = STRING: IP-MIB, RFC 4293
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.4 = STRING: IP-FORWARD-MIB, RFC 4292
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.5 = STRING: UDP-MIB, RFC 4113
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.6 = STRING: TCP-MIB, RFC 4022
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.7 = STRING: ENTITY-MIB, RFC 4133
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.8 = STRING: VMWARE-SYSTEM-MIB, REVISION 201008020000Z

And the NSX Manager:

SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: NSX Unified Appliance 3.2.1.1.0 build 20115694 VMware x86_64

SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.1 = STRING: SNMPv2-MIB, RFC 3418
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.2 = STRING: IF-MIB, RFC 2863
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.3 = STRING: IP-MIB, RFC 4293
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.4 = STRING: IP-FORWARD-MIB, RFC 4292
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.5 = STRING: UDP-MIB, RFC 4113
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.6 = STRING: TCP-MIB, RFC 4022
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.7 = STRING: ENTITY-MIB, RFC 4133
SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.8 = STRING: VMWARE-SYSTEM-MIB, REVISION 201008020000Z

Result when I try to browse NSX-MIB:

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.6876.120 = No more variables left in this MIB View (It is past the end of the MIB tree)
