Service chaining with physical appliance

Hi,

I cannot find precise information, so here is a question.

Is it possible to create service chaining on NSX with physical appliance?

For example, we have Palo Alto/Fortinet (or some other) physical FW and we want to use it for L7 microsegmentation between two VMs which are on same network segment . Is this possible?

As far as I know this is not possible. All third party vendor services I know off, use Agent VM's to redirect traffic to.
