NSX with vsphere 5.5 load balancing

Hi,

i have a question about load balancing mode

how it works ? master-slave ? active-passive?

what is the different modes ?

is it any solution provided by nsx if the load balancer is down?

what is the benefits compared the physical load balancer or is the same?

Thank you

If you're talking about NSX Edge's server load balancer, it's only Active-Passive.

If HA is enabled, NSX deploys 2 NSX Edge virtual machine and another VM take over the job.

Or, if you disable HA, you can still keep high availability by vSphere HA but it takes a minutes.

what is the benefits compared the physical load balancer or is the same?

If you need only a pair of load balancer, forget NSX and get a hardware LB because NSX is more expensive than a pair of LB(generally).

If you need a lots of pair of LB, then NSX might be a choice because once you install NSX you can deploy NSX Edge LB as many as you want.

But in general, NSX Edge LB has less functions than usual LBs(it does good work though)

Thank you,
