NSX and VMware clusters question

Hello,

Is NSX bound to the cluster, and can I reuse DLRs/edges between clusters?

I have two VSAN clusters both managed by one VC. One is NSX aware (with NSX controllers, and HA pairs of DLRs and edges), and another one is not NSX aware.  When I try to enable NSX on the second cluster I see that it's preparing to deploy yet another set of NSX controllers.

Does it mean that both NSX installations will be independent and I won't be able to reuse already existing DLRs/edges?

Thank you.

When you say enabling on the second cluster it should just be the standard host preparation process of deploying the NSX kernel modules for logical routing/switching/security. It won't deploy new controllers unless you explicitly push those out. If you continue with the VXLAN preparation then you will get your VTEPs created on the hosts. When you say reuse do you mean leverage them on the new cluster or migrate them to it? The DLRs will be instantiated in the kernel on all hosts in your Transport Zone but the Control VM can run on any of those. A very typical design is to have your ESGs and Control VMs in a separate Edge cluster whereas your workloads in Compute clusters leverage their functionality.

Hi Novice,

Is it possible you to paste screen-shot here?

Did your transport zone is spanned to existing cluster as well as second cluster?

Its all magic of transport zone, if your transport-zone is spanned to 1st cluster only then DLR/Edge can be independent of 2nd cluster.

As per previous comments above, would be great if you could provide some screenshots.

How many vCenter servers and NSX Managers do you have?
If you only have one vCenter, there would be only one NSX Manager with three NSX Controllers and there should not be any additional NSX Controllers for other vSphere/vSAN clusters
