Below is the NSX Upgrade Sequence i am planning to follow.
The environment has 4 clusters
1. Management Cluster - vCenter, NSX Manager, NSX controllers, Edge Gateway (HA)
2. Compute Cluster#1 - Guest VMs & DLR Control VM
3. Compute Cluster#2 - Guest VMs
4. Compute Cluster#3 - Guest VMs
My upgrade plan is as below. Let me know if this is the right way.
Upgrade Plan
Day 1 - NSX Manager, NSX Controllers (only NSX controllers, no upgrade of the hosts where it resides) & Host upgrade for Compute Cluster#3
Day 2 - Host upgrade for Compute Cluster#2
Day 3 - Host upgrade for Compute Cluster#1, DLR Control VM & Edge Gateway
Let me know if the above sequence is right or am i not following the right sequence.
I understand that VMware recommendation is to do the complete upgrade in single maintenance window, but will the above procedure work ?
Any Inputs
This sequence is fine.Compute Cluster can be upgraded in multiple phases after management component upgrades(DLR&Edge upgrade can be done in last phase or after NSX manager/controller upgrade as well)
Fine!
I think it is right sequence!
Then if you have any problem in upgrade, you can ask us,thank you !
I do the NSX distributed firewall enabled & many firewall policies has been configured mainly Applied to Distributed Firewall.
So even if 1 cluster is upgraded & the other cluster is not upgraded , will there no impact to the existing firewall rules
