NSX-T Software failed install on ESXi host

Hi there,

I recently tried to configure NSX on an ESXi host but I'm getting the error message: "Software failed to install on host. Invalid host thumbprint." It stalls at the "preparing installation" stage and immediately says the NSX install failed.

I tried some CLI work but that didn't help and it won't fully resolve. I have to uninstall NSX in order to clear the issue. Does anyone have suggestions on how to successfully configure NSX on the host with this error message or how to find/update the sha-256 thumbprint?

Hey @sysadkw,

The thumbprint of the ESXI is pretty easy to get, just open a browser and search for the Web Console, from there you will be able to see all the parameters.

However I recommend you to do the next (assuming you have capacity).

  1. Go to vCenter and put the host in maintenance mode.
  2. Remove the host from vCenter.
  3. Sync the NSX-T with vCenter.
  4. Wait for the host to not appear anymore.
  5. Add the host to the cluster again.
  6. Sync the NSX-T with vCenter again.
