Probably a dumb question, but here it goes.
I have NSX-T 4.0.1.1 loaded up in a lab. Tier 1 Gateway HA Mode. I understand Active/Standby and I understand the NEW Active/Active, but the "Distributed Only" option I don't understand.
What is that for? I have google the heck out of it and cant find any info other than possibly a feature used for Federating edge nodes between two sites. If that is the case then great, but if not than what am I missing?
I eventually answered my own question after some testing.
Tier-1 HA Mode
Active/Standby - T1 GW connected to Edge Cluster for all "Services" (LB, NAT, VPN, DFW, etc.)
Active/Active - T1 GW connected to Edge Cluster for select services (NAT, L2/L7 Gateway FW, URL, etc)
Distributed Only - T1 GW NO edge cluster connectivity. Straight connectivity to T0. No Services on T1
As soon as , you have connected T1 gateway to an edge cluster it will work in Active/Stand-by .
While Active-Active you can have only Reflexive NAT and stateless gateway firewall . Alongwith IP-packet forwarding . Active-Active is also called as Distributed only.
