NSX-T 3.0 Federation

Im planing to deploy multi-site NSX-T.

The goal is to have same L2 on both sites with LB enabled.

The question is:

What is the benefit of using NSX-T Federation, instead of 1 NSX-T Instance for both DC ?

Both DC will have dedicated LINK connectivity L2, so transporting TEPS betweend DC's is not a problem.

The main benefit from Federation is that you have independent managers in each site. Take a look at the Multisite doc here: NSX-T Multisite

You will not have to recover managers on site failure.

Federation does come with some limitations and not everything that works with Multisite is available with Federation. There is also a licensing impact, as Federation requires Enterprise Plus and Multisite is available in Advanced.

At least as of today I would recommend Multisite if it satisfies all your requirements and the recovery options it provides are enough for your needs.

Hi,

With Federation, you can manage multiple NSX-T Data Center environments with a single pane of glass view, create gateways and segments that span one or more locations, and configure and enforce firewall rules consistently across locations.

Once you have installed the Global Manager and have added locations, you can configure networking and security from Global Manager.

For information about the initial Federation configuration, including installing Global Manager and adding locations, see Getting Started with Federation in the NSX-T Data Center Installation Guide.
