So, we are now waist deep testing NSX and are going nuts with the horrendous names which are displayed.
Are we missing something? Is there not a better way to display these networks?

By default the name of the logical switch is "vxw-dvs-xx-virtualwire-#-sid-segmentid-NAME"
In the above string (shown in quotes) , the substring NAME represents the "logical switch name" you have given while creating a logical switch.
If you wish to change , for better managebility , Click on the Networking tab in VC which shows the VM Network and the logical switches in Distributed switch.
Right click on any of the virtual wire and click Rename.
