Extending existing NSX setup to DR site

Hi.

I am migrating my existing NSX setup on old POC kit to a new cluster that is replicating to a DR remote site.

My question is, after I have added the new cluster into my existing transport zone and removed the old POC kit, how do I then either transform my transport zone and logical switches into Universal Zone/Switches or migrate from a Transport Zone to a Universal transport zone

I have already prepared my hosts in DR, added a segment ID but I don't see an option to convert the transport zone into a universal ?

Is there a simple option that will be as non-disruptive as possible ?

Thanks for your help.

If i understand correctly,in your DR site you have NSX environment and all you are doing is evacuating POC cluster in production environment and adding it to Production compute resource ?

As far as i know there is no way we can convert a transport zone from Local- Universal and vice-versa apart from disconnecting the cluster and moving to one of the zone. Assuming that you are in need of Local&Universal zone, you can create Zones with compute cluster part of both the zones with cross cluster resources on Universal TZ - That way VM logical switches can be easily switched from Local to Universal and vice versa, also local Tzone can be removed if needed and you can simply switch to Universal TZ. Only catch is for CDO mode- you will have limitation because DVS would be part of both the zone if you are using both the zones with similar compute resource.

Hi

Many thanks for that. I am happy now that there is no quick conversion.

I will just go with creating universal versions of each logical switch and then swap them over during the migration period. I am expecting to have some downtime to do that step and I can factor that in with my testing.

Thanks again,

Logical switches are nothing but Portgroups - when we switch portgroup when the VM is up and running with active traffic, there will be downtime Smiley Happy
