Dumb question, why is DNS and NTP needed for control cluster?

Hi. I noticed since we went from v6.3.5 to v6.4.6 there is now the ability to configure DNS and NTP for the control cluster. I did not have that before, I assume you had to use the REST api to do it.

So I realize why you would need NTP, but I assume if you do not have an NTP does it use VMtool to synchronize time with the host?

And why would the control cluster need DNS?

Stupid questions, but I really don't know the answers to either of them. And is there any risk of not configuring this, or configuring these. Thanks,,,

It is an optional configuration (Controller Cluster doesn't rely on DNS lookup )However If you have an invalid configuration (for example, unreachable NTP servers), and then deploy a controller, the controller node deployment fails . In a nutshell it will help you during troubleshooting scenarios.
