Can we upgrade NSX-t during v2t migration

Dear Team,

Need urgent help...

We have migrated the Distributed firewall config to new environment.

now we are going to move the workload from HCX (using bulk migration), We migrated some test VMs and it's working fine.  Just wanted to know if can we upgrade NSX-T before we start workload migration, Could someone please assist with the below queries.....

- will there be any impact on the migrated components if we upgrade NSX-T?

- Post upgrade we will be able to resume the migration from where we left and able to finalize the same?

Please assist

Thanks in advance.

Hi ,

Since you are using HCX for workload Migration, assuming NSX-T Infrastructure is prepared on separate infrastructure. On your case the best approach would be to rollback the config from NSX-T, Upgrade the NSX-T infrastructure to desired version then restart your migration process from the begin. During migration process temporary IP sets will be added to NSX-V if the NSX-V security groups are used in a distributed firewall rule. This is required to maintain security while the VMs are migrated from NSX-V to NSX-T. After the migration, during the finalize infrastructure phase, the temporary IP sets will be deleted.

Migration coordinator service cannot be resumed to old state, while NSX-T Manager is rebooted during the upgrade Process.

Thank you for the reply..

" Migration coordinator service cannot be resumed to the old state, while NSX-T Manager is rebooted during the upgrade Process."

Need more clarity on the above statement, does it means we have migrated the DFW rules before we migrate the workload and cutover the network if someone rebooted the NSX Manager or due to ESXi Host failure NSX Manager rebooted then MC will not be able to resume to the old state? Please correct me if my understanding is correct..
